Project Controls Lead

Job description:

Company Overview

PRO-WESTERN MECHANICAL LTD. is a dynamic and rapidly expanding mechanical services provider specializing in new construction projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. We are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.

Summary
Join PRO-WESTERN MECHANICAL LTD. as a Project Controls Lead in our Saskatoon office. Pro-Western Mechanical is seeking a Project Controls Lead to serve as the architect and manager of our project execution processes. This is not a project management role in the traditional sense; this role is responsible for defining workflow and ensuring every project is on track through rigorous process follow-up, milestone tracking, and documentation management. This role will work alongside our Project Managers and QA/QC Manager to ensure operational excellence across Pro-Western’s entire portfolio. This is a Monday-Friday position with limited travel in Saskatoon.

Core Responsibilities

1. Process Development & Implementation

  • Design and document standardized workflows for mechanical project execution (from hand-off to close-out).
  • Build the frameworks for documentation control, ensuring a uniform “Pro-Western Way” is followed by all teams.
  • Continuously refine processes based on field feedback and performance data.
  • Pre-Construction Integration: Standardize and lead the “Project Kick-off” process to ensure a seamless transition of information from the Estimating team to the Field/PM Teams
  • Actively track and monitor Lessons Learned Documentation and provide feedback to the Estimating Team.

2. Milestone & Schedule Accountability

  • Monitor day-to-day project milestones across all active sites.
  • Identify potential schedule slips or execution bottlenecks before they impact the critical path.
  • Labour Productivity/Earned Value Tracking (Milestone accountability)
  • Hold regular “Execution Reviews” with Project Managers to ensure milestones are being achieved.

3. Documentation & Compliance Auditing

  • Ensure real-time accuracy of project documentation, including site reports, Change Orders, Price Requests, and RFI tracking.
  • Audit project files weekly to ensure the administrative health of each project is maintained.
  • Oversee the timely collection and organization of project close-out requirements (O&Ms, warranties, and start-up procedures).

4. Peer Collaboration & Support

  • Serve as a peer-level partner to Project Managers, providing them with the process tools they need to succeed.
  • Act as a direct point of contact for the VP of Operations regarding project status and process adherence.
  • Bridge communication gaps between the office and field leadership regarding execution standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in the construction industry, specifically within project coordination, scheduling, or controls.
  • Education/Trade: Preferred but not required: Project Management Professional (PMP), Journeyman Plumbing or Mechanical certificate
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, Drawings
  • Attributes: A “follow-through” personality. You must be comfortable holding peers accountable and have a high attention to detail for documentation and timelines.

Why Join Pro-Western?

  • Influence: You will have the authority to shape the company’s execution strategy.
  • Growth: Opportunity for salary increases as you demonstrate the impact of your processes on company efficiency.
  • Culture: Join a skilled and collaborative team to further your development.

Wage to be determined based on school level and experience and will be discussed during the interview.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
